Our truancy team works closely with families, school staff, and community partners to:

  • Monitor attendance patterns
  • Identify early warning signs
  • Provide resources and support to families
  • Connect students with counseling or community services when needed
  • Promote positive school engagement

Regular attendance is one of the strongest predictors of academic achievement and graduation.   • SC Attendance Laws

    South Carolina law requires children ages 5-17 to attend school regularly

     

  • A student is considered truant when they have 3 consecutive days of unexcused absences or 5 unexcused absences with a school year

  • Absences are unexcused unless the student has a valid excuse under South Carolina law

  • When attendance becomes a concern, the school will contact the parent or guardian.
  • When a student becomes truant under Soth Carolina law, the school will create a attendance intervention plan
  • If attendance does not improve, the case may be referred to a Truancy Supervisor and/ or to court
